Use this treasure chest to keep all your treasured memories and keepsakes in.

To make the treasue chest you will need:

A Shoe Box
Cardboard
Scissors
PVA glue
Toilet roll or tissue paper
Sticky Tape
Pencil
Paintbrush
Paints

Ask an adult to help when using scissors.

Step 1
Take a normal sized shoe box and measure a strip of card the same width as the lid.

Step 2

Curve the card in an arch shape over the top of the lid and secure using sticky tape. Using the arch as a guide cut two side pieces.

Step 3

Secure the side pieces with sticky tape as shown in the picture opposite.

Make additional details as shown with more card and secure in place with sticky tape.

Step 4

Add paper details at this stage if you wish, like the padlock on the front, just secure them with tape.

Using a mixture of 2 parts PVA glue and 1 part water, layer tissue paper or toilet roll over the cardboard making sure not to cover the hinge of the lid.

Continue layering the glue and tissue until there's at least 3 coats covering your model.

Step 5

Leave overnight to dry, remember to keep the lid open or it will stick shut!

When completely dry it should look something like this. Now it's time to paint your treasure chest.

Step 6

When it is completely dry, paint your chest.

We used acrylic paint but poster paint will work just as well, when the paint is dry pick out some detail in black marker.

Use your chest to keep all your treasured keepsakes that remind you of special times spent with your dad.

Color the pieces of the butterfly after printing them out. Don't go to the next step until you've colored your butterfly! You can use crayons, pencils or markers but not paint (it will warp the paper).
